DADS
ABOUT GLAD DADS
Glad Dads is a support group for fathers. Dads of today face a slew of challenges unique to our time. Between the increased expectations placed on us, the massive loneliness epidemic, and changes in household dynamics, we have a lot on our plate. Fatherhood has changed a lot since we were children, so our dads are not a reliable resource for advice. We may not want to burden our friends with our problems, and our partners are equally overwhelmed with their own workload. Dads of today are left with few options to get the answers we need -- this is the genesis of Glad Dads.
Mom groups have existed for a long time, but Glad Dads is a unique support group for the dads of today. This is not a meetup group that hosts occasional social events, and it's not a 12-step program. We exist somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. The idea is to create an environment where we can have fun while handling serious topics.
Our meetings are:
-
In-person - Being physically present with each other is a crucial part of the experience. It takes us away from the everyday distractions and allows us to be more vulnerable with the group.
-
Monthly - Parents don't have a lot of time, so it's imperative that the time they invest in Glad Dads has a return. With the exception of the newborn Glad Dad groups, all meetings are monthly to maximize attendance and efficacy.
-
Consistent - By having a consistent meeting schedule and regular group of members, we minimize the back and forth of organizing and create an environment of trust.
-
Structured - Meeting lasts 2 hours and follow a specific structure. Our meeting structure ensures that all attendees can get the most out of each meeting.
-
Hyper-Local - The closer the meetings are to your house, the more likely you are at attend. The goal is to make having meetings as easy as possible.
-
Decentralized - There is no boss here, and the meetings are not dependent on any individual member. Each group takes on the responsibility of self-regulating. Members need to take ownership for the group to be most meaningful.
